"Data service is unavailable" Errors when Starting Insight Applications

Question / Problem:
This error is displayed when attempting to launch any Insight application. What is the cause and how can it be resolved?
Answer / Solution:
When enabling Windows authentication on your IIS server(s) to support Insight using Windows authentication scheme, it is required to leave Anonymous access for the data service ("WcfDataService") application enabled - simply enable Windows authentication in addition to that.
This requirement exists for all supported versions of Insight.
If the above suggestion does not resolve this issue, review the WcfDataService.log file located by default in \Temp\Insight 6.x directory for more information. Submit all logs to Technical Support via a Support Case if you require additional assistance.
