Question / Problem:

Using Kofax Capture 9, all modules start very slowly, and services time out before they get started. What could be the problem?

Answer / Solution:

This is likely related to a Microsoft bug. Please see: Microsoft Support ¦ FIX: A .NET Framework 2.0 managed application that has an Authenticode signature takes longer than usual to start.

The problem is that if the machine has no Internet connection to be able to check the publisher evidence, it times out after approximately 35 seconds. To get this working again, on the affected machines, open the %WinDir%\Microsoft.NET\Framework\v2.0.50727\CONFIG\machine.config file.

Add the following parameter, generatePublisherEvidence, into the existing <runtime> tag that exists in the Machine.config file (it may be empty). If this section does not exist, append it to the end of the file:

    ...
    ...
    <runtime>
        <generatePublisherEvidence enabled="false" />
    </runtime>
</configuration>
