Error Locating Server Instance Specified When Launching Modules At Workstation


Question / Problem: 

When attempting to launch Kofax Capture modules, then an error locating Server/Instance may occur.  This error condition can be caused when the Client Workstation does not have unfettered access for communication to the Server Database.  A sample of the Error Message is included for reference, as follows: 

[3566] KdoLib: Network I/O error.: A network-related or instance-specific error occurred while establishing a connection to SQL Server. The server was not found or was not accessible. Verify that the instance name is correct and that SQL Server is configured to allow remote connections. (provider: SQL Network Interfaces, error: 26 - Error Locating Server/Instance Specified) (-1).

Answer / Solution: 

A review of the Windows Firewall settings may indicate a need for appropriate Inbound Rules for the expected Ports of the Kofax Capture application.
