Cannot set application role ACSystemRole because it does not exist or the password is incorrect error launching any Capture 10.0 Module

Question / Problem:

When trying to launch any Kofax Capture 10.0 module on a workstation, other than the License Utility, the following error is seen:

[4006] kdolib executing SQL command - cannot set application role "ACSystemRole" because it does not exist or the password is incorrect.

Answer / Solution:

This issue can be caused if the Kofax Capture server has deployed Fix Pack 1 or later, while the workstation is still on the base version of Kofax Capture. When installing Fix Pack 1 or later on the Kofax Capture server, one of the changes made is that ACSystemRole application role is removed from the Kofax Capture database. If a workstation does not have Fix Pack 1 or higher, it will not be aware of this removal, and will attempt to locate the ACSystemRole when it connects to the database.

Once the Kofax Capture Server deploys Fix Pack 1 or higher, all workstations attached to that server need to apply the same fix pack or service pack.

If using Kofax Capture Network Server (KCNS), the Central Site should be updated first. The Central Site server should be updated first. Then, all workstations at the Central Site need to be updated. The Remote Sites do not need to immediately update to the same fix pack / service pack version as the Central Site. The Remote Sites will still be able to synchronize with the Central Site. However, it is important to update the Remote Sites as quickly as possible.

If a Remote Site is installed with a client/server configuration, the above issue can happen at the Remote Site. Once the Remote Site server has Fix Pack 1 or later deployed, all workstations attached to that Remote Site Server need to have the same fix pack / service pack deployed.
