DLLRegister Call Failed exception when adding an Export Connector

QAID # 15041 Published

Question / Problem:

When adding an Export Connector via the Export Connector Manager on Windows Server 2008, Windows Vista or Windows 7, Capture produces a DLLRegister() Call Failed exception.

How can this issue be resolved?

Answer / Solution:

One reason for this could be related to User Access Control (UAC) security protections within later versions of Windows.

When an Export Connector created in VB6 is registered, the Administration module calls the DLLRegister() routine in the DLL, which in turn attempts to write the appropriate information to the HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT Registry area, which is protected by UAC.

To resolve this issue, it is recommended to do the following:

  1. Right-click on the "Command Prompt" shortcut within the Windows Start Menu, and select the option to run as Administrator.
  2. Type "admin.exe" (without the qotes), then press ENTER to run Administration.
  3. Attempt to register the Export Connector using Export Connector Manager.
