File Types Imported As Images And eDocuments
Issue
What file types are imported as images and which are imported as eDocuments by Kofax Capture?
Solution
Kofax Capture can import, process, and release almost any type of file. You do not need to limit your batches to image files.
Image files are defined as those having the following extensions:
- TIF
- JPG
- BMP
- PCX
- CAL
- GIF (grayscale only)
All other types of files are classified as eDocuments regardless of content.
Examples of eDocuments are:
- Simple text files
- Microsoft Word™ documents
- Microsoft Excel™ documents
- Microsoft Power Point™ documents
- Corel WordPerfect™ documents
- Corel Ventura™ documents
- Adobe Acrobat PDF files
- Adobe Photoshop™ files
- Audio Video Interleaved (AVI) files
- PNG image files
In simple terms, eDocuments are treated like blank pages by the Kofax Capture modules. Additionally, each eDocument is treated as if it were a single page.
The Kofax Capture Batch Class can be configured to convert imported PDF files to TIFF Image Files. This is necessary to perform image processing, OCR, and indexing based on the contents of each page in the PDF file.
