Could Not Access Network Location Error 1606 during Kofax Capture Service Pack installation

Question / Problem:

When installing a Kofax Capture Service Pack, I receive the following error message:

Error 1606: Could not access network location. \\<Old_KC_Server>\CaptureSV\Tutorial.

Answer / Solution:

This occurs when Kofax Capture Deployment Utility was used in the base version of Kofax Capture (9.0, 10.0, 10.1, 10.2, 11.0, etc), specifically to point the installation to the new Capture Server machine name. This issue can be prevented in Kofax Capture with the use of the new switch named /PrevServerPath.

The command structure:

ACDeployUtil.exe /PrevServerPath:\\<OLD_KC_Server>\CaptureSV /ServerPath:\\

Fixing this is a time consuming process. It involves replacing numerous Registry entries referencing the old Capture server name with the new name. This can be done by doing a “Find” using the old Capture server name as the keyword. Once all the references to the old Server name are replaced, the service pack installation should no longer encounter this error.

Another option for installing a service pack after receiving this error is to completely uninstall and re- install Kofax Capture.
