Question / Problem:
I received the following error message when installing Kofax Capture (KC) 10.0.2 (Service Pack 2) on one particular workstation:
Error 1722. There is a problem with this Windows Installer package. A program run as part of the setup did not finish as expected. Contact your support personnel or package vendor. Action Patching Database (Patch), location: D:\Program Files\Kofax\Capture\Bin\DBUtil.exe, command: /Patch /Workstation
Other workstations can be installed with KC 10.0.2 successfully without problem. How can I resolve this issue?
Answer / Solution:
This issue occurs due to low level security permissions that are not available when the Kofax Capture 10.0.2 installer is trying to execute "DBUtil.exe /Patch /Workstation" command to update the "..\CaptureSV\Config\ACConfig.xml" file. This dbutil.exe execution will not update the Kofax Capture Database but it will only update the workstation machine Registry based on some info that is located in the "..\CaptureSV\Config\ACConfig.xml" file. To resolve this issue:
- Retrieve a copy of the
..\Kofax\Capture\Bin\dbutil.exefile from a different KC workstation that is successfully installed with a higher Kofax Capture Fix Pack version. For example: KC 10.0.2.1.
- Stop Kofax Capture Service from the Windows Service Manager (
- Back up and replace the
..\Kofax\Capture\Bin\dbutil.exefile on the affected workstation with the one retrieved from Step 1 above.
- Restart the Kofax Capture Service.
- Continue to install KC 10.0.2 on the affected workstation.
- Manually update the
HKLM\SOFTWARE\Kofax Image Product\Ascent Capture\3.0\
ServerNameRegistry Key on the affected workstation.
This should complete the KC 10.0.2 installation.
