License Service Test Results With ERR ICANN NAME COLLISION
Question / Problem:
A workstation receives License Error when attempting to launch Kofax Capture modules:
[7001] SALicClnt: Unable to connect to the remote server
A connection attempt failed because the connected party did not properly respond after a period of time, or established connection failed because connected host has failed to respond.
Testing a connection to the License Server through Internet Explorer results with an error:
err_icann_name_collision
Why is this error encountered and is there any workaround?
Answer / Solution:
The full error indicates the IP is used instead of the HostName:
0x00000018, 0x00000000, 0x80040219, 0x00000000, 0x00000000, D:\Program Files (x86)\Kofax\Capture\Bin, Ocr, WINK1F4RN4K1DV:Sess 2, 10.2.769, AbsDb.CAbsLogin.1, 0, [7001] SALicClnt: Unable to connect to the remote server

Name Collision issues encountered with an IP address may indicate DNS issues.
Use of the fully qualified Domain Name as the URL for the License Server is recommended.
As a workaround, the HOSTS system file can be edited to reflect the IP/Host combination.
