Question / Problem:
What can cause an issue where Kofax Capture services such as Export, PDF Generator, and Recognition Server start then stop immediately?
And how can this issue be resolved?
Answer / Solution:
This issue can be caused by the following licensing error:
Insufficient licensing to run the requested module or feature. A Kofax Capture Enterprise license is required for your current Kofax Capture Database Configuration. Please contact your administrator.
This licensing error can occur because the Kofax Capture Database is currently configured with SQL Server Enterprise Edition, Oracle, or IBM DB2, which requires a Kofax Capture Enterprise license but the Kofax Capture serial number does not include a Kofax Capture Enterprise license.
This is documented on page 32 of the Kofax Capture 10.2 Installation Guide:
SQL Server Enterprise Edition, Oracle, and IBM DB2 require a Kofax Capture Enterprise License or Evaluation License.
This error can occur due to the absence of a Kofax Capture Enterprise system license when using SQL Server Enterprise edition as the Kofax Capture database. To resolve this issue, a Kofax Capture Enterprise system license can be purchased, or SQL Server Standard Edition can be used as the Kofax Capture database.
There are two options to resolve the issue for this licensing error:
- Purchase a Kofax Capture Enterprise License.
- Migrate back to the Standard database for the Kofax Capture database.
Once the licensing error is resolved, the issue where Kofax Capture services, such as Export, PDF Generator, and Recognition Server, start then stop immediately should also be resolved.
