Unable to connect to remote server error 7001 after downgrade of Kofax Capture

Question / Problem:

When Kofax Capture is downgraded from versions Kofax Capture 11 or 10.2 and the version is replaced with Kofax Capture 10.1, then there is a License Error:

Unable to get license status. The license server may be down or
the network may have problem.
[7001] SALicClnt: Unable to license server. The license
server may be down or the network may have problem.(Unable
to connect to the remote server)

Is this error due to orphaned objects from the previous KC11 or KC10.2 installation, interfering with KC10.1?
Are there any steps to resolve?

Answer / Solution:

Newer versions of Kofax Capture (KC11 and KC10.2) includes a configuration file (ACSvc.exe.config), which does not get created during the installation of KC10.1. That file should be removed or renamed from the directory (c:\Program File (x86)\Kofax\CaptureSS\ServLib\Bin). A restart of the Kofax Capture service should be completed and then the License Utility should no longer provide the 7001 error.

Steps to Resolve:

  1. Remove or rename the ACSvc.exe.config file from the BIN directory (Default Installation Directory:
  2. Restart the Kofax Capture Services
  3. Relaunch the License Utility to confirm the issue is resolved
