BatchNotifier Unable to connect to the remote server error when processing Batches

Question / Problem:

I receive the following error message while processing Batches through the queues:

"BatchNotifier.EnableBatchNotificationEvents, Unable to connect to the remote server.".

How can I fix this problem?

Answer / Solution:

Perform the following steps to resolve this problem:

  1. Ensure all clients/server have the necessary Registry Key.
    This Registry Key is located at:
    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Kofax Image Products\Ascent Capture\3.0
    and is a String data type named DisableBatchNotification, with a value set to 1.
  2. Confirm the existence of the Batch Notification Service on all clients. To do so, open the Services Control Panel by running "services.msc." Check under the name Kofax Capture Service and the description should contain "Batch Notification Service."
    If this description does not exist, the Batch Notification Service is not installed. To install it, follow the next substeps:
    1. Locate the InstallUtil.exe utility under the Microsoft .NET folder:
      For Kofax Capture 8.x:
      C:\WINDOWS\Microsoft.NET\Framework\v2.0.50727
      For Ascent Capture 7.5:
      C:\WINDOWS\Microsoft.NET\Framework\v1.1.4322
    2. Locate the BatchNotification.dll file under the Kofax Capture bin folder. Take note of this path.
      For Kofax Capture 8.x:
      C:\Program Files\Kofax\Capture\Bin
      For Ascent Capture 7.5:
      C:\Program Files\AscentSS\Servlib\Bin
    3. In a command prompt window, execute the following command:
      For Kofax Capture 8.x:
      C:\WINDOWS\Microsoft.NET\Framework\v2.0.50727\InstallUtil.exe "C:\ProgramFiles\Kofax\Capture\Bin\BatchNotification.dll"
      For Ascent Capture 7.5:
      C:\WINDOWS\Microsoft.NET\Framework\v1.1.4322\InstallUtil.exe"C:\ProgramFiles\AscentSS\Servlib\Bin\BatchNotification.dll"
      This command should indicate that the installation was completed and open the Enable Batch Notification Service window. Make sure to fill out the Log on as section with an account (or keep the Local System account) with rights to install services and click OK. Once completed, it should notify that Batch Notification was successfully enabled.
  3. Confirm that Batch Notification is uninstalled from the server. Similar to checking if it is installed on the clients, open the Services Control Panel by running "services.msc." Check under the name Kofax Capture Service and the description should NOT contain "Batch Notification Service."
    If the description does contain "Batch Notification Service," follow the next substeps:
    1. Locate the InstallUtil.exe utility under the Microsoft .NET folder
      For Kofax Capture 8.x:
      C:\WINDOWS\Microsoft.NET\Framework\v2.0.50727
      For Ascent Capture 7.5:

    2. Locate the BatchNotification.dll file under the Kofax Capture bin folder:
      For Kofax Capture 8.x:

      C:\Program Files\Kofax\Capture\Bin
      For Ascent Capture 7.5:
      C:\Program Files\AscentSS\Servlib\Bin
    3. In a command prompt window, execute the following command:
      For Kofax Capture 8.x:

      C:\WINDOWS\Microsoft.NET\Framework\v2.0.50727\InstallUtil.exe /u "C:\Program Files\Kofax\Capture\Bin\BatchNotification.dll"
      For Ascent Capture 7.5:
      C:\WINDOWS\Microsoft.NET\Framework\v1.1.4322\InstallUtil.exe /u "C:\Program Files\AscentSS\Servlib\Bin\BatchNotification.dll"
