Question / Problem:
After creating VRS and Scanner Profiles for the selected scan source in Kofax Capture 9.0, 10.x, and 11.x, no Scanner Profiles appear in the list of available Scanner Profiles.
Answer / Solution:
This issue can occur if something prevents Kofax Capture / ImageControls from saving the VRS Profile (.cps
) files and Scanner Profile (.ini
) files to the correct location for the selected scan source:
C:\ProgramData\Kofax\Local\ScannerProfiles\<Scan_Source_Name>\
When this issue occurs, the .cps
and .ini
files are instead saved to the following folder:
C:\ProgramData\Kofax\Local\ScannerProfiles\
To resolve this issue:
- ImageControls cannot save the profiles to the correct location unless 8dot3 name creation is enabled in the Windows Registry.
To enable 8dot3 name creation:- Open the Command Prompt as administrator.
- Execute the following command:
fsutil.exe behavior set disable8dot3 0
- Windows 7 will not provide any response.
Windows 8 will respond with the following:
The registry state is now: 0 (Enable 8dot3 name creation on all volumes).
- Reboot the PC.
- Confirm that 8dot3 name creation is enabled:
- Open the Command Prompt as administrator.
- Navigate to any folder that contains subfolders or files with long names.
- Execute the following command:
dir /x
- If the directory listing displays both the 8dot3 and long name versions of any file or subfolder with more than 8 characters in its name, 8dot3 name creation has been enabled successfully.
Example:
KOFAX~1 Kofax Image Products
- Relocate the VRS and Scanner Profiles to the correct folders:
- Navigate to
C:\ProgramData\Kofax\Capture\Local\ScannerProfiles.
- If there are any subfolders present, back them up to another location and remove them from the
ScannerProfiles
folder. - Create a subfolder with the same name as the selected scan source.
Example:
Fujitsu fi-6130 with SVRS with AIPE
- Copy all the VRS Profile (
.cps
) files and the Scanner Profile (.ini
) files from theScannerProfiles
folder into the newly created subfolder.
- Navigate to
- Make sure that the necessary user accounts and/or groups have Full Control access to the
ScannerProfiles
folder and its subfolders.
