Cannot install or remove KCIC Email after upgrade to Capture 11


Question / Problem: 

After doing an in-place upgrade from Capture 10 to 11 the Kofax Capture Import Connector - Email cannot be installed or removed.

The following error is displaying in the Application Event Viewer log:

Product: Kofax Capture Import Connector - Email Administration Plug In - Error 1722.  There is a problem with this 
Windows Installer package.  A program run as part of the setup did not finish as expected.  Contact your support personnel or package vendor.  Action 
Uninstallation_Unregister_ACEI\adminPluginFromAC, location:  \Program Files (x86)\kofax\capturess\servlib\bin\ command:RegAscex.exe /F ACE\adminPlugin.aex /under


Answer / Solution: 

To remove the plugin Capture application and reinstall:

  • Run the Microsoft Removal tool to uninstall (KCIC) provided by Kofax Support.

  • Reinstall the application from the Capture Setup screen and now the following error shows when launching it:
    Error creating user defined panel.  
    Display Name ACEadminPlugin
    No such interface supported.
  • Remove the application by running the setup binary again.  It should remove it successfully now.
  • Reinstall the application from the setup screen to successfully install.
