Path not found error installing the Content Manager WAF AS400 Release Script with Capture 8

QAID # 10432 Published

Question / Problem:

I have installed Kofax Capture 8.0. When trying to install the Content Manager WAF (AS/400) Release Script, I receive a "Path not found" error and the setup fails.

What is causing this problem?

Answer / Solution:

Kofax Capture 8.0 utilizes the C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\Kofax directory for compliance with Windows Vista access control.

Therefore, the Registry setting:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Kofax Image Products\Ascent Capture\3.0\LocalPath

is set to "C:\DOCUME~1\ALLUSE~1\APPLIC~1\Kofax\Capture\Local".

The Setup.exe program queries this value, removes "\Local" from the end of the string, then appends "\BIN" onto the end:

' Open the regestry key for the ascent path
lRC = RegOpenKey(HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE, "Software\Kofax Image Products\Ascent Capture\3.0", lhKey)
lDataLen = 256
gAscentDir = Space(lDataLen)
' Retrieve the workstation path value
lRC = RegQueryValueEx(lhKey, "LocalPath", 0, lType, gAscentDir, lDataLen)
' Remove the "local" part of the path
gAscentDir = Left$(gAscentDir, lDataLen - 6)
'*** Capture the ascent\Bin directory for registering the script ***
gAscentBinDir = gAscentDir & "BIN\"

Later in the setup, a call to the RegAscSC.exe program is made several times to register the Release Script with Kofax Capture.

However, this fails with a "Path not found" error because the file exists in:

C:\Program Files\AscentSS\ServLib\Bin

C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\Kofax\Capture\Bin

There are two possible workarounds:

  • Manually create a directory named:
    • C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\Kofax\Capture\Bin
      and copy the RegAscSC.exe file to that directory.
  • Modify the:
    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Kofax Image Products\Ascent Capture\3.0\LocalPath
    Registry Key's value to read:
    C:\Program Files\AscentSS\ServLib\xxxxx
    The Setup program will remove "\xxxxx" from the end of the string and append "\BIN" to it.
    Make sure you change this value back to:
    after the setup completes.
