Invalid user name or password error when deploying the KFS 4.x MFP Client to an HP MFP device

Question / Problem:

Attempts to deploy the Kofax Front Office Server (KFS) 4.x MFP Front Panel Client to an HP Multi- Function Printer (MFP) device fail with the following error message:

Cannot deploy a profile to "<Device Name>" The reported error is "Invalid user name or password."

Answer / Solution:

This error can occur if the HP MFP's administrative username and password were not entered correctly into the namespace in the KFS Administration Console's Advanced Settings.

To resolve this issue:

  1. In the KFS 4.x Administration Console, select Settings from the menu.
  2. In the Settings screen, select the Advanced tab.
  3. Enter mfp.hp into the Namespace Filter.
  4. Enter the HP MFP's administrative username into the mfp.username field.
  5. Enter the HP MFP's administrative password into the mfp.password field.
  6. Click Save.

Note: The administrative username and password must be the same for all HP MFP devices in the KFS 4.x environment. This is also documented on page 15 of the Kofax Front Office Server Administrator's Guide for HP MFPs.
