Input String Not in Correct Format error and COM Component error 800a0046 exporting to Capture

Question / Problem:

Exporting jobs from Kofax Front Office Server (KFS) 4.x to Kofax Capture fails and reports the following error in the Transaction Review screen:

Input string not in a correct format

 

The KFS Service.log reports the following error during service startup:

WARN [40] 1588.kc3.Kofax.Common.Destinations.KofaxCapture.Export.CaptureExportService - Unexpected error starting Kofax Capture export service. Ensure that the Capture license service and database are reachable.

System.Security.SecurityException: Creating an instance of the COM component with CLSID {F3A2E2DD-5169-42B3-AF0E-3B3DAEB25CF1} from the IClassFactory failed due to the following error: 800a0046 Exception from HRESULT: 0x800A0046 (CTL_E_PERMISSIONDENIED).

Answer / Solution:

This issue can occur if the KFS Service User Account does not have the necessary permissions to open the Scan.exe instances necessary to export jobs to Kofax Capture.

 

To resolve this issue:

  1. Open a command prompt "as Administrator"
     
  2. Execute the following command to open the 32-bit Component Services Manager:
    mmc comexp.msc /32

     
  3. In the 32-bit Component Services Manager, navigate to Component Services | My Computer | DCOM Config |{F3AE2DD-5169-42B3-AF0E-3B3DAEB25CF1}
     

    If {F3AE2DD-5169-42B3-AF0E-3B3DAEB25CF1} is not listed, navigate to Component Services | My Computer | DCOM Config |{A6063718-7889-46E0-AC60-5A7C958710DC}

  4. Right-click {F3AE2DD-5169-42B3-AF0E-3B3DAEB25CF1} or {A6063718-7889-46E0-AC60-5A7C958710DC} and select Properties
     
  5. Select the Security tab
     
  6. Under Launch and Activation Permissions, select Customize and click Edit.
     
  7. Click Add and add the KFS Service User Account
     
  8. In the Permissions for <KFS Service User Account>, check the Allow checkboxes for Local Launch and Local Activation
     
  9. Click OK to exit the Launch and Activation Permission window
     
  10. Click Apply and OK to save the changes and exit the Properties window
     
  11. Close the Component Services window
     
  12. Restart the Kofax Front Office Server service.
