Insufficient Thin Client Licenses error logging into the KFS Thin Client

Question / Problem:

Attempts to log into the Kofax Front Office Server (KFS) Thin Client result in the following error:

Insufficient Thin Client licenses

Answer / Solution:

The Insufficient Thin Client licenses error (without any text following it in the error message) usually indicates that either the Kofax Capture license does not have a line item for KFS Thin Client licenses, or that all the KFS Thin Client licenses are currently in use by other users.

To determine whether the Thin Client line item exists on the Kofax Capture and how may Thin Client licenses are available:

  1. Open the Kofax License Utility on the KFS server or on any other Capture station in the same Capture environment where KFS is installed.
  2. In the Station Licenses section, confirm the presence of the Thin Client line item
  3. Confirm how many Thin Client licenses are listed in the Available column.

If a KFS Thin Client user closes the browser without first logging out of the Thin Client, there will be a delay in releasing the Thin Client license line item while the server waits for the Thin Client session to time out.  The Thin Client Session Timeout value can be configured by the KFS Administrator and has a default value of 30 minutes.  For more information regarding the configuration of the Thin Client Timeout Settings, see KB #3023397
