Issue
When scanning into the Kofax Front Office Server (KFS) 4.1 Thin Client, the following error occurs once the pages have been scanned:
Scan Error
Unable to use Kofax Web Scanning Control because a license is missing or invalid
Cause
The missing or invalid license error is caused by an eVRS licensing issue in the WebCapture Service. This issue has been documented in TFS #1577171 and there are two certified solutions available that resolve this issue.
Solution #1: Updated WebCapture Service Installer
- On the KFS Server, stop the World Wide Web Publishing Service
- Navigate to
C:\Program Files (x86)\Kofax\Front Office Server 4.1\bin\ThinClient\js
- Backup the existing
atalaWebCapture.js
file to a location outside the KFS installation location
- Navigate to
C:\Program Files (x86)\Kofax\Front Office Server 4.1\bin\ThinClient\bin
- Backup the existing
Kofax.WebCapture.Installer.msi
to a location outside the KFS installation location
- Download and unzip KofaxFrontOfficeServer-4.1.1.25.FIX14738.883.zip
- Right-click the unzipped
atalaWebCapture.js
file and select Properties
- If the file Properties | General tab indicates that the file is blocked, click
Unblock
andOK
.
- Copy the unzipped
atalaWebCapture.js
file intoC:\Program Files (x86)\Kofax\Front Office Server 4.1\bin\ThinClient\js
- Right-click the unzipped
Kofax.WebCapture.Installer.msi
and select Properties
- If the file Properties | General tab indicates that the file is blocked, click
Unblock
andOK
.
- Copy the unzipped
Kofax.WebCapture.Installer.msi
file intoC:\Program Files (x86)\Kofax\Front Office Server 4.1\bin\ThinClient\bin
- Restart the World Wide Web Publishing Service
- Thin Client users will be prompted to install the updated WebCapture Service the next time they attempt to scan or access the Scan Settings.
If a Thin Client user is not prompted to install the updated WebCapture Service, have them clear their browser cache and try again.
Solution #2: Manually patch existing WebCapture Service on each Scan Station
Solution #2 is not necessary if Solution #1 has already been implemented.
- On each KFS 4.1 scan station, stop the WebCapture Service and close any browser tabs or windows that are connected to the KFS Thin Client.
- Navigate to
C:\ProgramData\Kofax\WebCapture
- Backup the existing
KfxEVRSw.dll
file to another location
- Download and unzip KofaxFrontOfficeServer-4.1.1.25.FIX14727.zip
- Right-click on the unzipped
KfxEVRSw.dll
file and select Properties.
- If the file Properties | General tab indicates that the file is blocked, click
Unblock
andOK
.
- Copy the unzipped
KfxEVRSw.dll
file intoC:\ProgramData\Kofax\WebCapture
- Restart Kofax WebCapture Service (Start Menu | Kofax WebCapture Service)
