WINWORD.EXE Time-out error when importing Microsoft Word documents

Question / Problem:

When importing Microsoft Office documents using Kofax Import Connector, the following error is displayed in the Message Connector Monitor:

Message imported into Kofax Capture (contains document conversion errors).

In the the KIC Plugin log, the following error is logged for the failed message:

Process >WINWORD.EXE< ID >7044<; document conversion failure Document Conversion failed - Time-out after 514ms activity and 120090ms inactivity; New application process has remained open, TerminateProcess successful

Answer / Solution:

A potential resolution is to add the Kofax Import Connector's Message Connector Temp folder as a Trusted Location.

Use the following steps:

  1. Launch the suspect Office application (e.g Word).
  2. Add C:\ProgramData\Kofax\KIC-ED\MC\Temp\ as a Trusted Location (File ¦ Options ¦ Trust Center).
  3. Enable the "Subfolders of this location are also trusted" check box.
  4. Reprocess the failed message.
