Collect logs with the KCM Log Collector

Issue

When issues occur with Kofax Communications Manager, Kofax Technical Support needs log files and diagnostic information for analysis of the issue.

To assist with the collection of these log files, Kofax Techical Support provides the KCM Log Collector. This tool will collect all necessary log files and information and saves this to a zip archive.

The Applies To section shows what versions of KCM are supported by the KCM Log Collector.

Usage
Collect logs of the complete KCM installation.
  1. Extract the zip archive on the server where KCM is installed on.
  2. Run the executable KCMLogCollector.exe.
  3. Click the button Collect logs and click Ok in the prompt that explains that collecting the logs will take some time.
  4. Wait until the log collector has finished. The tool will provide a prompt once it finished.
  5. Attach the created zip archive to your support case and inform the Technical Support Engineer you have attached the logs.

Collect logs of a specific instance of a KCM installation.
  1. Extract the zip archive on the server where KCM is installed on.
  2. Run the executable KCMLogCollector.exe.
  3. In the list "Collect logs for detected KCM installation" , select the KCM installation to collect logs from.
  4. In the list "Collect logs of KCM instance", select the KCM instance to collect logs from.
  5. Click the button Collect logs and click Ok in the prompt that explains that collecting the logs will take some time.
  6. Wait until the log collector has finished. The tool will provide a prompt once it finished.
  7. Attach the created zip archive to your support case and inform the Technical Support Engineer you have attached the logs.

Collect logs of a specific instance

Check the version

The current version of the log collector is 2.0.0.0. To check the version, there are two options:

  • Use the tool to collect logs. In the created zip archive, a text file is created with the current version in the filename.
  • Open the properties of the KCMLogCollector.exe executable. In the Details pane, the current version is listed.
