ControlSuite: Hardcoding Mac Address to be used for licensing

Article # 3040518 - Page views: 209

On the server hosting the Kofax Licensing service, Configuration Assistant is unable to pull a license after the MAC address on the Network Interface changed on the server hosting the application. The reason for this could be that the License Server has two NICs (main network & management) & regardless of setting the metrics on the NICs the Licensing Service will “toggle” between the two Mac.

It is possible to hardcode the correct Mac Address into the Flexera config file.

Please follow the next steps to do have the Mac Address static:

  • Stop the Kofax Licensing Service.
  • Navigate to: C:\Program Files\Kofax\Shared Services\Licensing\server
  • Open “flexnetlsw.xml” in a text editor.
  • Locate this line:

<arguments> -Xmx512m -Xms256m -jar flexnetls.jar -service -producer-settings producer-settings.xml -port 0 -https-server-configuration %ProgramData%\Nuance\ControlSuite\Licensing\Settings\https.config</arguments>

Change it to below – see additional pieces in red where the Server ID is the Mac Address from the NIC you want to ALWAYS use. The below Mac Address is just an example obviously.

<arguments> -Xmx512m -Xms256m -jar flexnetls.jar -service -producer-settings producer-settings.xml -port 0 -https-server-configuration %ProgramData%\Nuance\ControlSuite\Licensing\Settings\https.config -active-hostid 000C290E2625/ETHERNET</arguments>

  • Save the edited file & replace the original.
  • Delete this folder & content: C:\Windows\ServiceProfiles\NetworkService\flexnetls\NDI (assuming the Kofax Licensing Service is running as “NetworkService”)
    • Delete this folder & content: C:\Users\<Service Account>\flexnetls (assuming the Kofax Licensing Service is running as “a dedicated Service Account”)
    • Delete this folder & content: C:\Windows\ServiceProfiles\LocalService\flexnetls (assuming the Kofax Licensing Service is running as “Local Service”)
    • Delete this folder & content: C:\Windows\System32\config\systemprofile\flexnetls (assuming the Kofax Licensing Service is running as “Local System”)
  • Delete this folder & content: C:\ProgramData\flexnetsas\NDI
  • Restart Kofax Licensing Service.
  • Wait 2 to 3 minutes & then open up Configuration Assistant, you should see the correct Server ID/Mac Address in the Licensing Section.
