Controlsuite: Configuring An Ethernet Card Reader Fails

Problem: 

On some occasions configuring an Ethernet Card Reader fails. This can happen when the account that the ControlSuite DCS Service or the ControlSuite CAS Service runs under has changed. Configuring the Ethernet Card Reader either fails completely or fails during configuration process 

Solution: 

To resolve this issue, you will need access to the SQL database. SQL Management Studio is the most commonly used tool. 

The steps are as follows:

  1. Stop the ControlSuite DCS Service
  2. Stop the ControlSuite CAS Service
  3. Delete the following folders. 
  • The CertStore folder If running DCS as local system in C:\Windows\System32\config\systemprofile\AppData\Local\Nuance\DeviceControlService
  • The CertStore folder If running DCS as a user account. C:\Users\<user_account>\AppData\Local\Nuance\DeviceControlService
  • The CertStore folder If running CAS as local system in C:\Windows\System32\config\systemprofile\AppData\Local\Equitrac\Equitrac Platform Component\EQCASSrv
  • The CertStore folder If running CAS as a user account. C:\Users\<user_account>\AppData\Local\Equitrac\Equitrac Platform Component\EQCASSrv
  • The DeviceControlService folder in %ProgramData%\Nuance
  1. Open SQL Management Studio and run the following query.
  • delete from cas_config where subsystem1='DCS' and attribute='Certificate';
  • delete from cas_config where subsystem1='DCS' and attribute='intermediate';
  • delete from cas_config where subsystem1='DCS' and attribute='PrivateDefinitions';
  • delete from cas_config where subsystem1='DCS' and attribute='root';
  • delete from cas_config where subsystem1='DCS' and attribute='SE_Param';
  • delete from cas_config where subsystem1='CAS' and attribute='CertChain';
  • delete from cas_config where subsystem1='CAS' and attribute='PrivateDefinitions_1';
  • delete from cas_config where subsystem1='CAS' and attribute='PrivateDefinitions_2';
  • delete from cas_config where subsystem1='CAS' and attribute='SE_Param_1';
  • delete from cas_config where subsystem1='CAS' and attribute='SE_Param_2';
  • delete from cas_config where subsystem1='CAS' and attribute='SSLSerialDB_Root';
  • delete from cas_config where subsystem1='CAS' and attribute='SSLDB_Root';
  • delete from cas_config where subsystem1='CAS' and attribute='SSLSerialDB_Int';
  • delete from cas_config where subsystem1='CAS' and attribute='SSLDB_Int';
  1. Start the ControlSuite DCS Service
  2. Start the ControlSuite CAS Service
  3.  If you have an Ethernet reader in Web System Manager, delete it.
  4. Put the Ethernet reader in Maintenance mode. (only connect the network cable to the printer port and then connect the power plug)
  5. Set Ethernet reader to factory settings via Nuance Reader Maintainer Tool Version 2.12.00 or later 
  6. Put Ethernet reader in normal mode.
  7. Discover and import the Ethernet reader in Web System Manager.
  8. Configure Ethernet reader.
