Equitrac Embedded for Fuji-Xerox and Xerox devices rely on an external server, DWS (Device Web Service) to run the client.
By default 1 GB of memory is allocated for hosting these embedded clients. Should the number of devices increase, the login performance may decrease. The general guideline is to have a maximum of 100 Equitrac Embedded for Fuji-Xerox and Xerox devices per DWS server.
To host more devices, it is recommended to increase the total amount of RAM on the server by 1GB, and the memory allocated to DWS using the instructions below to edit the registry. It is generally recommended to keep the number of Fuji-Xerox and Xerox devices under 200 per DWS.
For Equitrac 6:
- Open registry editor
- Navigate to "HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\WOW6432Node\Apache Software Foundation\Procrun 2.0\EQDWSSrv\Parameters\Java"
- Make backup of that registry key for disaster recovery purposes
- In Options, find "-XX:MaxPermSize=1024m" and change to "-XX:MaxPermSize=2048m"
- Save registry / exit registry editor
- Restart EQ DWS service
For Equitrac Office / Equitrac Express 5.x, In addition to the same steps above, if REG_DWORD JvmMx exists under "HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\WOW6432Node\Apache Software Foundation\Procrun 2.0\EQDWSSrv\Parameters\Java" then change the default value 0x00000400 (1024) to 0x00000800 (2048) . Save registry / exit registry editor and restart EQ DWS Service.
Further, performance may increase by using a dedicated server for DWS and DCE. For example, if DRE is installed on the same server as DCE/DWS, and a large print job is processed, this may impact the user experience at the MFP in terms of more delays such as when displaying screen refreshes.
