Copying charged to billing code terminated if user account limit exceeded

Problem description:

With Equitrac Express/Office (EE/EO), the following behavior is observed:

Copying charged to billing code terminated if user account limit exceeded

Under the following conditions:

  • User limits is enabled
  • Prompt for billing code at copier is enabled within Session Flow
  • Users have access to a billing code with enough balance to make several copies (or billing code limits is disabled)

For example:

  • User01 has enough balance to make 1 B&W copy
  • User will use billing code a10 which has enough balance to make 100 (B&W/Color) copies

Workflow:

  1. User01 authenticates at the device, because its account has enough balance to make 1 copy the device is unlocked
  2. When prompted, User01 inputs billing code a10
  3. User01 attempts to make 4 copies (a10 has plenty of balance remaining)
  4. The copy session is terminated due to insufficient funds

Resolution:

The behavior observed is expected because during login stage DCE sends user's balance to MFP -the information only available at that moment- The MFP is not aware of the billing code balance and will stops Copy when user's balance on MFP reaches 0.

This behavior is independent of the MFP vendor/model
