Equitrac: Print Workstation Client no longer displays certain popup after Windows Update

Problem:

After applying certain Windows Updates, the Equitrac Print Client no longer displays certain popup windows such as Prompt for Billing Code or Prompt for Client / Matter.

Resolution:  

Certain Windows Updates perform a reset of the LanMan Print Services registry key back to the default value. As a result, the Equitrac Print provider do not get loaded.  The specific key is: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Print\Providers\LanMan Print Services Certain Windows Updates reverts the "Name" value back to the default of "win32spl.dll". When that happens, the Equitrac print provider is no longer able to load. As a result, the Equitrac Print Client no longer receives notifications for print jobs that are sent to Windows Print Queues to display a popup. Print Jobs will still be tracked against the user, but not against a Billing Code or Client / Matter.   

Please note that this resolution is only applicable to Equitrac Office/Express Print Client 5.5 and earlier, and the Equitrac Professioanl Print client. The Equitrac Office/Express Print Client 5.6 and later do not utilize the EQPrintProvider.   The registry setting can be restored by performing a repair on the Equitrac Print Client by going to Control Panel, Programs and Features, and right clicking the Equitrac Client, and selecting Repair. Alternatively, update the following Registry key to restore the value. Check the path to choose the appropriate path relevant to the product in use. HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Print\Providers\LanMan Print Services Name="C:\Program Files\Equitrac\[Office|Express|Professional]\Client\EQPrintProvider.dll" After changing this key, it is required to restart the Print Spooler and EQSharedEngine services.
