ShareScan Anti-Virus Recommendations

Information:

Anti-virus applications can conflict with the eCopy ShareScan software when exceptions are not in place.

Raw image and thumbnails from the scan device are stored in temporary directories listed below. Anti-virus software can interfere with files in these directories, and is a known cause of several issues including device hangs, Master file errors, missing pages, etc.  It may be necessary to add the directories listed below as exceptions in the anti-virus software.

For detailed steps on how to except directories from anti-virus scanning, please review documentation provided by the anti-virus software vendor.

Note:

  • If ShareScan is installed on a 64 bit server the appropriate files are located in "C:\Program Files (x86)\"
  • On 32-bit servers the folder is "C:\Program Files".

Directories used by ShareScan 6.1:

  • Software Installation Directory:
    • C:\Program Files (x86)\Nuance\ShareScan6.1
    • C:\Program Files (x86)\Nuance\Tomcat 8.5
  • Temporary Scanned Files Directories:
    • C:\ProgramData\Nuance\ShareScan
    • C:\Program Files (x86)\Nuance\Tomcat 8.5\webapps
  • Watcher Service:
    • For any network folders being monitored it is strongly recommended to exclude the monitored folder and all subfolders.
    • The watcher service also creates hidden folders typically located in primary monitored directory. These folders must be excluded.
  •  Any Third Party connectors may have folders that must be excluded.

Directories used by ShareScan 5.4:

  • Software Installation Directory:
    • C:\Program Files (x86)\Nuance\ShareScan5.4
    • C:\Program Files (x86)\Nuance\NIFTrace
    • C:\Program Files (x86)\Nuance\Tomcat 7.0
  • Temporary Scanned Files Directories:
    • C:\ProgramData\Nuance\ShareScan\ScannedFiles
    • C:\Program Files (x86)\Nuance\Tomcat 7.0\webapps
    • C:\ProgramData\Nuance\ShareScan\Tomcat
  • Trace Service:
    • C:\ProgramData\Nuance\NIFTraceSvc 
    • C:\ProgramData\Nuance\NIFTraceControl

    • Windows Server 2003: C:\Documents and Settings\LocalService\Application Data\Nuance\NIFTraceSvc  and .\NIFTraceControl

  • Any Third Party connectors may have folders that must be excluded.

Notes:

  • If ShareScan is not installed to the default directory, please except the corresponding locations.
  • While anti-virus is the most common conflict, other applications such as indexing software or real time back up software may also require exceptions for the above directories.
