SafeCom G4 Server getting SSL Security error when trying to connect with SQL Server.

Article # 3054047 - Page views: 53

Problem:

SafeCom Administrator doesn't show Server Group after a new installation or the server is showing as offline.

SafeCom Jobserver trace file shows following error:
ADOInterface::CSQLInterfaceAdapter::Open, Error 80004005: Unspecified error Source: Microsoft OLE DB Provider for SQL Server
Description: [DBNETLIB][ConnectionOpen (SECCreateCredentials()).]SSL Security error.

Answer / Solution:

The G4 Server by default connects to SQL Server using TLS 1.0, if the the server (G4 and/or SQL) do not allow this protocol the SSL Security error is seen.

To resolve configure SafeCom G4 to use TLS 1.2 when connecting against SQL Server:

  1. Install Microsoft OLE DB Driver 18 for SQL Server
  2. Create a new DWORD value named "Provider", and set its data to "1".
    • Registry path: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\SafeCom\SafeComG4\Database
  3. Restart SafeCom Service.
