ShareScan 6.5: Instructions for uninstalling

How to uninstall ShareScan from a PC or server.  Instructions follow for ShareScan 6.5, and refers to the default installation locations.  If a custom path was chosen, adjust accordingly.

It is important to ensure that the software is fully removed to have a successful reinstall of the software.  If some components are not removed, the reinstallation may fail, or result in an unstable system.

For a ShareScan full installation where option Install ShareScan Full/Complete was used, use the following instructions.  This assumes that the default database (SQL 2017 Express) is used, and everything is installed on the same server.


  1. Perform a Database backup at ShareScan Administration console for disaster recovery purposes.
  2. Do a Configuration export with the Profiler Tool. This will allow for importing the connectors and configuration to the newly reinstalled system.

Open "Program and Features" and uninstall the following in this order

  1. Kofax eCopy ShareScan 6.5 WebClient
  2. Kofax eCopy ShareScan 6.5 ScanStation Client (if installed)
  3. Apache Tomcat 9 (remove only)
  4. Amazon Corretto Runtime (x86)
  5. Kofax eCopy ShareScan 6.5
  6. Kofax eCopy ShareScan 6.5 Workflow Editor
  7. Kofax OmniPage Capture SDK 21.1 (x64)
  8. Microsoft SQL Server 2017 (64 bit) 
  9. Microsoft SQL server 2012 Native Client
  10. Microsoft OLE DB Driver for SQL Server
  11. Microsoft ODBC Driver 17 for SQL Server
  12. Microsoft ODBC Driver 13 for SQL Server
  13. Microsoft SQL Server 2017 T-SQL Language Service
  14. Microsoft Command Line Utilities 15 for SQL Server
  15. Microsoft Visual C++ 2012 Redistributable (x86) 11.0.61030
  16. Microsoft Visual C++ 2015-2019 Redistributable (x64) 14.28.29913
  17. Microsoft Visual C++ 2015-2019 Redistributable (x86) 14.28.29913

Perform the following to ensure a complete uninstallation.

  1. Open Windows Task Manager and stop the SQLServr.exe process.
  2. Remove C:\Program Files (x86)\Kofax\ShareScan [64-bit systems] or C:\Program Files\Kofax\ShareScan [32-bit systems]
  3. Remove C:\ProgramData\Kofax\ShareScan [note that C:\ProgramData is a hidden folder]
  4. Remove C:\ProgramData\KofaxInstall
  5. Delete the following registry keys: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Wow6432Node\Kofax\ShareScan [x64 operating system] HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Kofax\ShareScan [x86 operating system]
  6. Remove/delete content of C:\Program Files (x86)\Microsoft SQL Server\MSSQL14.MSSQLSERVER\MSSQL\DATA folder
  7. Reboot the system
