How to Use SSH to Connect to a Linux Machine

Answer / Solution: 

If you try to connect using telnet, and get errors like "Could not open a connection to host on port 23 : Connect failed", or "Cannot resolve network address for KDC in requested realm while getting initial credentials", or get a login prompt, but you keep getting "Login incorrect", this means that you need to use SSH to connect to the box.

You should download PuTTY from Run putty.exe and enter the hostname. Make sure SSH is selected. Click on open to connect.
