MarkView Application Server on JBoss Frequently Crashing Due to an error: Too many open files

Article # 3024769 - Page views: 71

Question / Problem:

Our MarkView Application Server on JBoss is crashing frequently and the logs are trapping the following error: Too many open files

This count of too many open files can lead to crashes. After a server bounce, the count is reset.

How can we resolve this?

Answer / Solution:

To address that issue, Kofax recommends the following steps be taken to modify the deployment scanner settings:

  1. In the standalone.xml file find "<subsystem xmlns="urn:jboss:domain:deployment-scanner:2.0">"
  2. In the next string set "scan-interval" to 0. In this case scanner will be started only one time at the start.
  3. Restart the server.

If the steps above still do not resolve the issue, then create a crash dump as follows:

  1. Add the following to the JAVA arguments:

-verbose:gc -Xloggc:<path to the gc file> -XX:+PrintGCDetails -XX:+PrintGCTimeStamps -XX:+PrintGCDateStamps -XX:+HeapDumpOnOutOfMemoryError -XX:HeapDumpPath=<path to the dump file>

2. Restart the server.

3. After the next crash provide Technical Support with a zip of all JBoss and MarkView logs.
