MarkView Viewer - After upgrading to MarkView 7.1 some images can not be viewed.

Behavior

  • The following error will be displayed when trying to view the image:
    'An unexpected error has occurred. Contact your system administrator.'
  • If you view the server log file you may see an error message similar:
    Processing of HessianServiceExporter remote call resulted in fatal exception: com.markview.docserver.ui.DocumentUIService.getPageRendition java.lang.OutOfMemoryError: allocLargeObjectOrArray: [I, size 214450256
    at java.awt.image.DataBufferInt.<init>(DataBufferInt.java:41) at java.awt.image.Raster.createPackedRaster(Raster.java:458)

Known Causes

There are two scenarios that we have seen cause the behavior above.

  • If the TIF file is large in file size (larger than 800KB or so) the viewer is unable to process this depending on the amount of memory that is allocated
  • The second cause of this issue is if the dimensions of an TIF image is very large, (more than 4000px in height or 3000 in width.

Resolution

The following are a few of the possible solutions to resolve this issue:

  1. Increase the amount of memory that the viewer module is allocated. (This is done on the applicaiton server)
  2. When scanning try scanning with a lower resolution (200x200 or 300x300).
  3. Ensure that you are scanning in Greyscale
  4. If you are using images from a camera, please ensure that you have run them through a post processing software such as Kofax VRS, this will allow for smaller image sized.
