Attempting to register the mobile device and obtain a license error when logging into a KFS 4.1 server

Article # 3036743 - Page views: 13

Issue

Attempts to log into a Kofax Front Office Server (KFS) 4.1 server from a mobile device using Kofax Mobile Capture result in the following error:

An error occurred attempting to register the mobile device and/or obtain a license.

Cause

This issue can occur if the KFS administrator has not disabled the "Require Authentication for Device Registration" feature on the KFS 4.1 server.  The "Require Authentication for Device Registration" feature prevents MFP Self Registration unless the user first logs into the MFP with an LDAP or Active Directory login that is recognized by KFS.  Since this is not possible to do on an Android or iOS mobile device, this feature is not compatible with Kofax Mobile Capture.  The "Require Authentication for Device Registration" feature is enabled by default in KFS 4.1 and must be disabled to allow mobile devices to connect to the KFS server.   This issue has been documented in TFS 571076.

Solution

To resolve this issue, the KFS administrator must:

  1. Log into the KFS Administration Console,
  2. Navigate to Settings | General tab
  3. Uncheck the box for "Require Authentication for Device Registration"
  4. Click Save.
