How to enable logging for the Document Transformation Service

Question / Problem: 

How to troubleshoot the Thin Client Service (e.g. Validation Callback not working)

Answer / Solution: 

  1. Open the Thin Client Service's 'Web.config' file in a text editor (by default this is located in C:\Document Transformation\Client\)
  2. Look for the commented '<system.diagnostics>' tag near the top
  3. Uncomment it, and edit it so it looks similar to the following:

<listeners>
<add name="myListener" traceOutputOptions="DateTime" type="System.Diagnostics.TextWriterTraceListener" initializeData="C:\Document Transformation\ThinClientServer.txt">
<filter type="System.Diagnostics.EventTypeFilter" initializeData="
Verbose"/>
</add>
</listeners>
</trace>
</system.diagnostics>

 

Notes:

  • The path in the first 'initializeData' attribute is where the log file will be saved (C:\Document Transformation\ThinClientServer.txt)
    Important: the IIS user must have access to this location in order to log events!
  • The second 'initializeData' sets the log level ("Verbose")
  • Save the file and restart the IIS service (or use iisreset)
