Question / Problem:

How to retrieve the Imprinter Counter value from the last image scanned and store it in a KTA 7.6 or higher variable for use in seeding the Starting Imprinter Counter value for the next scan.

Answer / Solution:

The default behavior in KTA when scanning using a Scan Create New Job form is that the scanner's imprinter counter will reset each time the scan source is loaded.  However, a KTA 7.6 or higher scan form can be configured to retrieve the Imprinter Counter value from the last image scanned.  This value can be saved to a Global Variable for use in seeding the starting Imprinter Counter value the next time the scan source is loaded.

If using the Kofax Software VRS - TWAIN scan source, Kofax VRS 5.1.1.1 (Service Pack 1, Fix Pack 1) or higher must be installed on the scan station so that VRS can pass the Imprinter Counter value between the scanner and KTA.

The scanner must have a functioning Imprinter installed (complete with ink cartridge) for this functionality to work.

To save the Last Used Imprinter Counter value to a Global Variable in KTA 7.6 or higher:

  1. In the KTA Designer, User Interface menu, select Forms and open the Scan Create New Job form

  2. Select the Action tab

  3. Click New to create a new action

  4. In the Type field, select Same Page

  5. Name the action GetImprinterString

  6. Click + to add a new Target / Source/Value pair

  7. In the Target field, select Global Variable, click the Category link to change the Category if necessary, and select the target Global Variable.

  8. In the Source/Value field, select Form Control, expand the ScanControl form fields, and select  ScanControl.ImprinterString

  9. Click Add to save the Target / Source/Value pair

  10. Click Add and note that the GetImprinterString action appears in the list.

  11. Select the Designer tab to return to the form

  12. Click the Scan Control to display its properties.

  13. Click the Lightning icon and click the Scan Complete link.

  14. Click Add

  15. Select the GetImprinterString action and click Done.

  16. Click Save

  17. Release the form.
