KTA - After new KTA installation the Designer cannot be opened

QUESTION:

After new KTA installation the Designer cannot be opened.

Within the eventlog we observed that the sqlcmd.exe crashed with the following error message:

The KTA installation was running successfully and the databases/tables were created.

SOLUTION:

When the SQLcmd.exe crashed during creating the KTA databases it has been seen, that the KTA tables has lots of missing entries which results in a non-working KTA environment.

The used SQLCMD.exe version was 10.50.2500.0
(C:\Program Files (x86)\Microsoft SQL Server\Client SDK\ODBC\110\Tools\Binn\)

To solve this, remove the KTA databases again and also uninstall KTA from the application server. Install the SQL commandline utilities from the SQL installation media by installing the SQL management studio.

For the SQL 2008 R2 it will install the SSQLCMD.exe in version 10.50.1600.1.

This will verify that the version of the SQL commandline utility is the same as the SQL server.
