How "Include Items Associated with Processes" works when creating a package

Article # 3049633 - Page views: 92

Issue

When creating a package, there is an option called Include Items Associated with Processes.  How does this property work?

Solution

KTA 7.10

In v7.10, when Include Items Associated with Processes is turned on, all associated items are explicitly added to the package as shown below.

In v7.10, when Include Items Associated with Processes is turned off, only the selected process is added to the package as shown below.

If we compare the 2 packages' ZIP files side by side, the contents are identical.  This is to ensure the target environment is consistent on import.

The main difference when turning Include Items Associated with Processes on/off is experienced during import.

When a package was created with Include Items Associated with Processes turned on, we see every item associated with the package in the Main View tab.  This means individual items can be imported via the Import Selected Items options.

When a package was created with Include Items Associated with Processes turned off, we only see the process added to the package in the Main View tab.  The remaining items in the package are included in the Overview tab.  The items in the Overview tab will be imported along with selected items in the Main View tab.

KTA 7.9 (and lower)

When Include Items Associated with Processes is turned on in v7.9 (and lower), the behaviour is the same as v7.10 during package creation.

When Include Items Associated with Processes is turned off in v7.9 (and lower), only the process and some associated items are included in the packaged ZIP. This is shown in the screenshot below. This can cause inconsistencies on a target environment which is why the behaviour changed in v7.10.
