0x80096005 - The timestamp signature and or certificate could not be verified or is malformed error when installing 7.9.0.12
Issue
When attempting to install Fix Pack 12 for KTA 7.9's Transformation update, the following error is encountered:
0x80096005 - The timestamp signature and/or certificate could not be verified or is malformed.
Within the Transformation error log, the following is observed (as an example):
Line 95: [0FEC:1B38][2022-06-08T07:50:52]e000: Error 0x80096005: Failed authenticode verification of payload: C:\ProgramData\Package Cache\.unverified\PdfCompressor
Line 96: [0FEC:1B38][2022-06-08T07:50:52]e000: Error 0x80096005: Failed to verify signature of payload: PdfCompressor
Line 97: [0FEC:1B38][2022-06-08T07:50:52]e310: Failed to verify payload: PdfCompressor at path: C:\ProgramData\Package Cache\.unverified\PdfCompressor, error: 0x80096005. Deleting file.

Solution
For one case, installing Fix Pack 9 first before Fix Pack 12 resolved this issue.
If the above does not resolve the issue, here are some items to check for:
1) From the KTA 7.9 Installation guide, Pg. 126 (Organization of KTA Documentation) - see the following snippet below. In general, the error observed relates to missing root certificate.
Before installing the Transformation Server Bundle, it may be necessary to install the USERTrust Certificate and the DigiCert Assured ID Root CA Certificate in your environment. The installation may fail if these certificates are missing
2) Check if there is a group policy preventing the installation of the certificate. You can check the properties of the Transformation Server installation files (.exe and .MSI) for details of the certificate.
