Is there a way to temporarily disable archiving of jobs for purposes of troubleshooting?

Answer / Solution: 

Disable System Task

To disable all job archiving, disable the “Archive Jobs” system task, which will take effect after restarting the Core Worker services.

To do this in the KTA Designer, navigate to System > System Settings > System tasks, click on the Archive Jobs task, uncheck Active, and click Save.

In versions earlier than KTA 7.6: System Settings > System tasks, click on the Archive Jobs task, change Active to No, and click the checkmark to save.

To reenable job archiving, reverse this change and restart Core Worker services.

 

Disable Individual Archive Job Tasks

If the problem with archiving is job-specific, such as specific jobs with large numbers of history entries, then it may be sufficient to disable the individual Archive Job tasks and leave the system level task enabled. This means that the tasks currently trying to archive jobs will be disabled until the underlying cause can be addressed, but tasks will still be created and processed for jobs newly ready for archiving.

At the direction of Technical Support, you may be asked to disable these by running the following SQL statement against the main TotalAgility database:

UPDATE wt SET ACTIVE=0 FROM WORKER_TASK AS wt WHERE TASK_TYPE=12

Once ready to reenable these Archive Jobs tasks, run the following query:

UPDATE wt SET ACTIVE=1 FROM WORKER_TASK AS wt WHERE TASK_TYPE=12

Relevant issues

Temporarily disabling archive may be useful when encountering issues such as the following:

Any kind of MSDTC errors when using a separate Finished Jobs database.

Jobs with massive number of history entries to be archived.
