Issue

Web Capture service is not available even when it has been installed as a service.

Troubleshooting steps

It was clear that the Web Capture Service was not installed.

So we installed the Web Capture Service, and it still failed.

Next step: force an update to add the KTA site URL to the Trusted domains, which had to be done via GP. Group Policy update was correct, however, it did not occur.

All of this suggested that there was an issue communicating between the Browser and the Service, which would be localhost HTTP calls.

In Chrome via F12, looking for errors in the browser, was found the block essentially highlighted in the session.

The Internal Desktop Team realized that there was a Chrome update Saturday 09/25 , coinciding with the issue.

KTA thin client was tested in IE, Edge, and Firefox, and all 3 worked correctly.

Solution

Short term: Customer decided to tell the customers to use Firefox for scanning instead of Chrome.

Long term: They would look to transition their KTA install to HTTPS.
