Question / Problem:

When configuring the Thin Client to use the HTTP protocol with SSL (HTTPS), you may encounter the following error message when trying to log in to the Thin Client:

The connection to the server is broken

In the Event Viewer, the following error message appears:

Could not find a base address that matches scheme http for the endpoint with binding WebHttpBinding. Registered base address schemes are [https].

Answer / Solution:

To resolve this issue:

When switching to use KTM Thin Client over HTTPS you will need to change the Web.Config file to configure the KTM Thin Client Web Application so that it supports HTTPS.

KTM Thin Client uses the WebHttpBinding object to accept HTTP requests from Web browsers. To change this so that it can accept HTTPS requests, please make the following changes below to the Web.Config file, which is located in the ThinClientServer directory - most commonly:

C:\Program Files\Kofax\Transformation\ThinClientServer\

The changes are as follows.

  1. Locate the <webHttpBinding> element.
  2. Under the above element should be <binding name="Kofax.KTS.Services.BindingConfiguration"...>
  3. Before the </binding> element, insert the following code:
    <security mode="Transport"><transport clientCredentialType="None" /></security>
  4. Ensure each endpoint address tag with contracts stated below that have binding="webHttpBinding" contains the following attribute afterwards:
    bindingConfiguration="Kofax.KTS.Services.BindingConfiguration"
The above step should apply to the following endpoint address contracts. Please ensure this:
    Kofax.KTS.Services.IAuthenticationService
    Kofax.KTS.Services.IBatchService
    Kofax.KTS.Services.IDocumentService
    Kofax.KTS.Services.IValidationService
    Kofax.KTS.Services.ICorrectionService
  5. Change all service endpoint binding for all mex addresses to mexHttpsBinding
  6. Locate the following element: <serviceMetadata httpGetEnabled="true" />
  7. Change it to: <serviceMetadata httpsGetEnabled="true" />
  8. After the changes have been made, save the Web.Config file and restart the Web site on IIS.
