Question / Problem:

What may be the problem if the KTM Service Configuration utility is not able to uninstall and reinstall the KTM Server services?

Answer / Solution:

In KTM 5.0 and earlier, the Service Configuration utility uninstalls and reinstalls the service when settings are changed. To do this, it must stop the KTM Server processes. If the processes are not able to be stopped in a normal fashion, the processes may need to be terminated to be able to proceed. Be aware that terminating the processes may send In Progress Batches to Quality Control.

The KTM 5.0 server processes are:

  • ServerSchedulerService.exe
  • MailroomProcess.exe
  • ExtractionProcess.exe
  • RecognitionProcess.exe

The KTM 4.5 and earlier server processes are:

  • MailroomService.exe
  • Kofax.Server.Extraction#.exe

In either case, the module interface (MailroomSvr.exe)should also be closed if it is open.

Even if the processes are stopped, the Service Configuration utility may not be able to proceed if something is holding a lock on the service. In most cases, it is sufficient to ensure that all Windows Services windows (or other Microsoft Management Console windows) are closed.

If the problem persists, the system may need to be restarted.
