Question / Problem:

Why is a properly configured Server Scheduler Service not picking up Batches right after restarting Windows Server?

Answer / Solution:

The Server Scheduler Service needs the Ascent Capture Service running in order to be able to verify proper licensing for processing Batches. If the Ascent Capture Service does not start in time, then the Server Scheduler Service will not process any Batch and it might log a licensing error.

In order to avoid this situation, set the Server Scheduler Service Startup type to “Automatic (Delayed Start)”.

You can also, instead, create a dependency for the Server Scheduler Service off the Ascent Capture Service as follows:

  1. Open Regedit.
  2. Navigate to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\
  3. Find Server Scheduler
  4. Add a Multi-string value, naming it: DependOnService
  5. Set its value to Ascent Capture Service

If all goes well, you will see the dependency listed under the Dependencies Tab for the Server Scheduler Service:
