Invalid path error 9999 when exporting PDF files with OCR disabled in Kofax Express 3.2.0.19 or higher

Question / Problem: 

In Kofax Express 3.2.19 or higher, attempts to export batches to a PDF with Optical Character Recognition (OCR) disabled result in the following error:
Error -9999: C:\ProgramData\ABBYY\SDK\11\FineReader Engine\FontCachw\…\ contains an invalid path. 

Answer / Solution: 

In addition to installing later Fix Pack for Kofax Express 3.2, the following edit must be made in the App.AppProfile.

To make the necessary edit to the App.Approfile:

  1. Close Kofax Express.
  2. Navigate to C:\ProgramData\Kofax\Kofax Express 3.2\
  3. Open App.AppProfile in a text editor such as Notepad.
  4. Locate the following line:
    <EngineFontNamesFilter>Auto</EngineFontNamesFilter>
  5. Set the EngineFontNamesFilter value to FineReader.
    <EngineFontNamesFilter>FineReader</EngineFontNamesFilter> 
    NOTE: The following EngineFontNamesFilter values are also valid and may be substituted for the Finereader value if necessary:
    • Arabic
    • Armenian
    • Chinese
    • European
    • Japanese
    • Hebrew
    • Korean
    • PDF
  6. Save the changes to App.AppProfile.
  7. Restart Kofax Express.
