Slashes in a Kofax Express 3.x index field value used in the filename creates unwanted subfolders when the job is exported

Question / Problem:

If a Kofax Express 3.x job is configured to use an index field that contains either a forward slash "/" or a backslash "\" as a part of the exported filename, during export Express creates a subfolder using the contents of the field prior to the slash, and creates a file within that subfolder using the contents of the field following the slash as the filename.

Answer / Solution:

The Microsoft Windows API forbids the use of forward slashes and backslashes in a filename because these characters are reserved for use as path component separators. If an index field contains these characters, Windows will interpret them as separators and divide the contents of the field into subfolders and filenames.

If an index field that contains a Date is used in the name of the exported images, Kofax recommends using a Validation mask for the index field such as MM"-"DD"-"YYYY. Alternatively, a validation script could be used to replace the slashes in the date with dashes prior to export.
