How to deactivate a Kofax Express Software License without an Internet connection

Answer / Solution:

These instructions are for deactivating a Kofax Express license when the computer does not have an active Internet connection. Please see QAID 12976 for the conventional instructions for deactivating a Kofax Express License. When the computer is not connected to the Internet, an Express software license must be manually deactivated.

To manually deactivate a Kofax Express software license

  1. Open Kofax Express.
  2. Select the Help ribbon.
  3. Click the Deactivate button.
  4. The Deactivate Kofax Express screen will display the license information. Please copy this information for future activations. Click Deactivate.
  5. An error message will appear stating that Express was unable to connect to the server. Click Cancel.
  6. Another warning message will appear with instructions. Kofax Express will create a file named Deactivate.txt which contains a copy of the instructions and a special deactivation code that must be entered to complete the deactivation online. The warning message will contain the path to the Deactivate.txt file as well as the link to the deactivation Web site. Write down this information and click Deactivate.
  7. A final message will appear stating that the license has been deactivated on the local computer and once again provides the location of the Deactivate.txt file. Click OK.
  8. Close out of Kofax Express.
  9. Navigate to the Deactivate.txt file and either print out its contents, or write it down.
  10. On another computer that is connected to the Internet, open the Web browser and go to:
    Kofax Express Deactivation.
  11. Enter the serial number and deactivation code as listed in the Deactivate.txt file.
  12. Click Deactivate License.
  13. A confirmation message will appear confirming that the license has been deactivated on the Kofax License Servers and is free to be reactivated on another computer.

To verify that the license has been deactivated

  1. Select the Help ribbon in Kofax Express.
  2. Click About.
  3. The About Kofax Express screen will display the License level as Demo and the License state as Deactivated.
