How to reset VRS defaults in Kofax Express

Answer / Solution:

In the course of troubleshooting a scanning issue in Kofax Express, it may be necessary to reset the VRS default settings. This action will not affect any custom Scanner Profiles, but will reset the default settings to their “factory” values.

To reset the VRS defaults in Kofax Express:

  1. Open the Kofax Express Scanner Configuration Utility which is in one of the following locations:
    • 32-bit versions of Windows
      C:\Program Files\Kofax\Kofax Express\bin\ScannerConfigUtil.exe
    • 64-bit versions of Windows
      C:\Program Files (x86)\Kofax\Kofax Express\bin\ScannerConfigUtil.exe
  2. From the list of Available image devices, select the scanner model.
  3. Click Configure Sources.
  4. Select each individual source and delete them.
  5. Close the Configure Sources window.
  6. Click Refresh List.
  7. Select the scanner model again.
  8. Click Configure Sources.
  9. On the Configure Sources screen, click Create Standard Sources.
  10. Close the Configure Sources screen.
  11. Click Restore VRS Defaults.
  12. Close the Scanner Configuration Utility.
  13. Open Kofax Express and select the scanner. This will automatically recreate the scan source using the reset VRS Default settings.
NOTE: Kofax Express installs its own version of VRS that is directly tied to Kofax Express and cannot be used with other scanning applications. Kofax Express can be installed side-by-side with a standard Kofax VRS installation. In such installations, changes made to the Kofax VRS configuration do not affect Kofax Express and vice versa. Therefore, when resetting the VRS Defaults for Kofax Express, it is necessary to use the Kofax Express Scanner Configuration Utility located in the Kofax Express installation folder, and not the VRS Scanner Configuration Utility that is located in the Control Panel and/or Start Menu on machines where both Kofax Express and Kofax VRS have been installed side-by- side.
