Imprinter Controlled by VRS

Question / Problem:

Scanning with a Kofax VRS scan source ignores the Imprinter Settings that were configured in the Scanner Driver settings.

Answer / Solution:

By default, Kofax VRS will control the Imprinter settings for scanners whose imprinters are certified for use with VRS.

When using Kofax VRS with an ImageControls-based scanning application, the Imprinter Settings will be exposed by the scanning application.  When using Kofax VRS with an ISIS-based or TWAIN-based scanning application, the imprinter settings are exposed in the ISIS on Top or TWAIN on Top Interface. This behavior is considered to be "as-designed" as it allows the scanning application to pass Imprinter settings such as the Prefix String and starting Imprinter Counter Value through Kofax VRS to the scanner.

Fix Pack 2 for VRS 5.1.1 introduced a switch that determines whether the imprinter settings are defined by the scanning application through Kofax VRS or by the scanner driver. This switch applies to all scan jobs on the scan station regardless of the scanning application.

The following instructions require VRS or higher be installed.

To grant control of the imprinter to the scanner driver:

  1. Navigate to C:\ProgramData\Kofax\Vrs
  2. Create a new text file called ModConfig.ini if one does not already exist.
  3. Open ModConfig.ini in a text editor such as Notepad.
  4. Add the following:
  5. Save the changes to ModConfig.ini

  6. Restart any processes and/or services that use Kofax VRS / Image Controls.
