Cannot locate SCSI device Error 20391 when loading a Canon DR-3080CII in VRS 4.5 on Windows 7 64-bit
QAID # 15912 Published
Question / Problem:
When attempting to scan with VRS and a Canon DR-3080CII scanner on a Windows 7 64-bit system, the following error occurs when using the Kofax Component Installer:
error 20391 cannot locate SCSI device.
After installing the 64-bit ISIS driver, it takes up to 5 minutes to load the scan source.
Answer / Solution:
The Canon driver that is installed with the Kofax VRS 4.5 Component Installer for the Canon DR-3080CII is a 32-bit driver that is not compatible with the 64-bit OS. In addition, the Canon 64-bit ISIS driver causes slow scanning behavior in ISIS-based applications.
It is recommended to create a compatible scan source using the 64-bit TWAIN driver:
- Install the Canon DRIT driver installation, which loads both TWAIN and ISIS drivers.
- Open the Kofax Scanner Configurator and un-check the selection box for VRS Certified scanners.
- Locate the Canon "Canon DR-3080CII TWAIN" option in the scanners list, and configure the scan sources based on the TWAIN scanner driver.
The Canon DR-3080CII is no longer considered a certified scan source in Kofax VRS 5.1.1 and higher
