Configure Exclusions for VRS from Scanning by 3rd Party Security Software

Issue

Best Practices for configuring Kofax VRS folder, file, and file type exclusions from scanning by 3rd-party Security software such as Endpoint Agents, Monitoring software, and Anti-Virus applications.

Cause

Interference by third-party security software such as Endpoint Agents, Monitoring software, and Anti-Virus applications can negatively affect performance or cause errors when scanning using Kofax VRS. Adding folder, executable file, and file type exclusions in the third-party Security software can resolve issues caused by such interference.

Solution

The following exclusions are recommended to be added to third-party security software as Best Practices:

Folder Exclusions:

C:\ProgramData\Kofax
C:\Program Files (x86)\Kofax
C:\Users\<User name>\AppData\Local\Temp
The folder where the scanning application stores scanned or imported images

These paths may vary, depending on the Operating System version and environment.

Additional Executable File Exclusion when Kofax VRS is installed as a Server Installation:

VRSRepositoryServer.exe

Unless noted otherwise, all executable files listed above are located in the \ImageControls\bin folder

File Type Exclusion:

The image file type(s) used when saving the scanned or imported images (.TIF, .PDF, etc.)
